Feedback is external approval or disapproval. Typical feedback sounds like – “I liked this about what you did” or “This didn’t work because you did….”
Critique is a critical part of feedback – as the person giving feedback, I think I need to find something wrong in order to feel useful. I need to give you something to work on because you asked for feedback.
Neither actually help us improve our work – it doesn’t help us become familiar with our work, it all relies on outside influences for affirmation or disapproval with few specifics that lead us to discovery about our work.
when we rely on others as experts of our work, we do not feel a sense of control or power over what we do.
When we are the experts of our process and product we can get information from multiple sources, including outside observations, to inform our understanding of our work.
data is data – not good or bad, just facts about the work.
When we use the data lens – we will talk about ways that we could address the data & consequences.
